Wordle Letter Pattern Tips: Master Common Word Patterns

Wordle is fundamentally a pattern recognition game. The more you understand which letter patterns are common in five-letter English words, the faster you can narrow down the answer — sometimes solving in just two or three guesses.

Most Common Letters in Wordle Answers

Analysis of the full Wordle answer list shows that E, A, R, O, T, L, I, S, N, and C are the most frequently occurring letters. A strong opening word covers as many of these as possible.

Common Ending Patterns

• -IGHT words: NIGHT, LIGHT, MIGHT, RIGHT, SIGHT, TIGHT, FIGHT, BIGHT — all share the same four letters.
• -OUND words: BOUND, FOUND, HOUND, MOUND, POUND, ROUND, SOUND, WOUND.
• -TION is not used (too long for 5 letters), but -TING and -TION roots appear as shorter forms.
• -LY endings: BADLY, EARLY, SADLY, MADLY, ODDLY, DIMLY, NOBLY.
• -ED endings: BAKED, CAGED, DARED, FAZED, OGLED, PAVED.

Double Letters in Wordle

Double letters appear more often in Wordle than many players expect. BELLE, ABBEY, VIVID, MAMBO, and KAZOO have all been Wordle answers. When you have most letters solved but the word does not form, consider whether a letter might appear twice.
